Elder Care in Sacramento CA

When it's time to find some extra help caring for your elderly loved one, the task can seem pretty daunting. There are a lot of questions and qualifications to consider throughout the process, butElder Care in Sacramento CA that isn't necessarily the end of it. It's important for your elderly relative to feel involved in the interviews as well. Since most of the time that home care providers are around are times you might not be, it's important that your loved one feels comfortable with the situation.

Find Out What Your Loved One Needs
There is a huge variety of professional care options out there. Your loved one may need health care aides or just a personal in-home care companion. Before setting up meetings with anyone, talk to your elderly relative and find out what her needs are. If she needs just a little bit of light housekeeping help, those needs are much different than if she requires help with personal care, such as bathing. You might be surprised at the types of help your loved one needs if she's willing to open up about some of the things that have her worried.

Talk to the Elder Care Agency Together
As a family caregiver, you definitely have an interest in finding the right person to help your loved one when you can't. But it's especially important that your elderly relative feels as though he has a say in the process. Make sure that you set up interviews with home care agencies at times that are convenient for your loved one and make sure that he knows that you value his input during the process. If possible, allow him to lead the conversation so that you can both get a good feel for how well the person will fit.

Ask How Your Loved One Feels
After the interview with the agency representatives, ask probing questions to find out how your elderly relative really felt about the home care professional. Sometimes we hit it off right away with someone, but not always. Ask if there was anything that made your loved one uncomfortable or that she particularly liked about meeting the individual in question. If your loved one needs another meeting to determine whether that individual would be a good fit long-term, see about setting up another appointment.

In the end, being a family caregiver is a lot of work, but you don't have to go it alone. Help your loved one find senior care support personnel that makes him feel good about having that help around.
