Caregiver Ideas near Folsom, CA: Spreading Smiles through a Simple Field Trip

As a caregiver for an elderly patient, when was the last time you took him or her out on a field trip? A field trip can be almost anything, but considering going to the mall or shopping for food as a field trip is not quite the point.Caregiver Folsom CA

A field trip could be going to the park to sit and feed the birds. It could be driving around town and seeing some of the history that exists in a variety of buildings. A field trip could also be visiting a museum, art gallery, or other cultural exhibit.

Depending on the health and well-being of the elderly patient, a field trip can be an incredible boost for them. Many people who require a home care provider will have a tendency to spend more time at home, especially alone. When this happens, depression can increase.

The more assistance that a person requires, the more likely it is that they assume they can no longer do much of anything anymore. However, the home care provider should be able to encourage them to get out and still sample life and all that it has to offer. Just because somebody requires assistance to get in and out of the shower safely or to clean the dishes after a nice meal, that doesn’t mean they have to sit around at home waiting for the next day to arrive.

Think about the last time you spent a considerable amount of time, especially days, cooped up in your house. Maybe you were sick with the flu or didn’t have anywhere to go for a while. The more time you spend in one place, thinking about all the things you used to do or want to do, the more easily you could slip down the slope that leads to depression.

Then consider what it felt like when somebody came over and dragged you out, whether you wanted to go or not. Within a matter of time, you were probably smiling because you were out of the house.

A field trip can have the same impact on an elderly individual who requires a caregiver to assist them with their basic care.

It’s National Go on a Field Trip Month and whenever you do, encourage an elderly individual to get out of the house and go somewhere new, you will likely elicit numerous smiles from them throughout the day. That can have a tremendous impact on their emotional well-being and it can inspire them to want to do even more in the future.
