September is World Alzheimer’s Month!

By Patrick Philbrick-Director on Sep 6, 2018 11:05:00 AM

The beginning of September marks the official start of World Alzheimer’s Month! This month is an international campaign organized by Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) every September. The goal of the month-long campaign is to generate and increase awareness of Dementia and to challenge the stigma that is often associated with the disease. World Alzheimer’s Month 2018 will be the 7th year of the campaign, which was initially launched in 2012. Additionally, September 21st is the official World Alzheimer’s Day.

World Alzheimers MonthAlzheimer’s and Dementia are becoming an increasingly larger issue in older Americans. In fact, there are over 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s currently. While research shows the growing rate of Alzheimer’s and Dementia, 2 out of every 3 people across the globe believe there is little to no understanding of Dementia in their own countries. World Alzheimer’s Month is the ADI’s way of attempting to inform people, clarify misconceptions, and ultimately create a sense of action here in America, as well as all over the world. World Alzheimer’s Month is a means to unite leaders, people with dementia, caregivers and families, medical professionals, researchers, and media from all different countries and regions. Together, they join forces and work in tandem to promote awareness and effect positive change in the Alzheimer’s community.

As compassionate, reliable caregivers for seniors, Harmony Home Care is also dedicated to the same causes and values that are at the forefront of the World Alzheimer’s Month campaign. Our staff uses this month as a way to further educate themselves, their patients, and even the families they work with. We also use this month to show our unwavering support and commitment to caring for people who are battling these illnesses.

It can often be challenging to determine if your loved one or family member is aging regularly or if they are actually exhibiting signs of Dementia. These are some early symptoms and signs that can be key indicators. While this can be a hard diagnosis and situation for your family, your priority must be finding professional, reliable, trustworthy care for them.

This September, Harmony Home Care asks that you show your support for the cause and participate in World Alzheimer’s Month. From donating, sharing information on your social media profile, to even volunteering, there are a variety of ways you can get involved in the campaign. If you need to find a caregiver for yourself or a loved one that is trained and qualified to handle Dementia, contact our team. The Harmony Home Care professionals are more than happy to serve those in need of caregiving assistance in Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer, and Yolo counties.
